<ol><li>Rinse thoroughly with clean tap water before use.
</li><li>Place rigid tubing over lip of aquarium so the control valve dangles freely outside the aquarium. Make sure the rigid tubing end is underwater.
</li><li>Fully open valve counterclockwise until you can easily start a siphon by sucking on end of valve.
</li><li>When siphon starts, adjust drip rate to 2-4 drops per second. This may be adjusted to accommodate larger fish in larger volumes of water. Turn the valve counterclockwise to increase drip rate or clockwise to decrease drip rate. Remember to double the volume of water in about 1/2-1 hour while never taking more than 2 hours total time for acclimation.</li></ol></span>

It is geared toward sensitive inhabitants such as snails, corals, shrimp, sea stars, wrasses, and discus. You need the Foster & Smith Aquatics Fish Acclimation Kit and must be willing to monitor the entire process. Gather a clean, 3- or 5-gallon bucket designated for aquarium use only. If acclimating both fish and invertebrates, use a separate bucket for each.

</li><li>Dim the lights in the room where your specimen bags will be opened. (Severe stress or trauma may result from sudden exposure to bright light.)
</li><li>Float the sealed bag in your aquarium for 15 minutes (Fig. A). This allows the water in the specimen bag to adjust slowly to the temperature in the aquarium.
</li><li>

Carefully empty the contents of the bags (including the water) into the buckets (Fig. B), making sure not to expose sensitive invertebrates to the air. Depending on the amount of water in each bag, this may require tilting the bucket at a 45-degree angle to make sure the animals are fully submerged (Fig. C). You may need a prop or wedge to help hold the bucket in this position until there is enough liquid in the bucket to put it back to a level position.
</li><li>
Use the Foster & Smith Aquatics Fish Acclimation Kit to set up and run a siphon drip line from the main aquarium to the bucket. You'll need separate kits for each bucket used. The rigid tubing will sit over the trim of most glass aquariums. Use the enclosed valve to regulate flow from the aquarium into the bucket.

When water begins flowing through the tubing, adjust the drip by adjusting the control valve to a rate of about 2-4 drips per second (Fig. D).
</li><li>When the water volume in the bucket doubles, discard half and continue the acclimation process until the volume doubles once more – about one hour.
</li><li>At this point, the specimens can be transferred to the aquarium. (Fig. E) Sponges, clams, and gorgonians should never be directly exposed to air. Gently scoop them out of the drip bucket with the specimen bag, making sure they're fully covered in water. Submerge the bag underwater in the aquarium and gently remove the specimen from the bag. Next, seal off the bag underwater by twisting the opening, and remove it from the aquarium. Discard both the bag and the enclosed water. A tiny amount of the diluted water will escape into the aquarium; this is okay. Also, to avoid damage, please remember never to touch the "fleshy" part of live coral when handling.</li></ol></span>

<strong>Important Tips</strong>
</p><ul><li><strong>Be patient</strong> – never rush the acclimation procedure. The total acclimation time for your new arrival should take no longer than two hours.
</li><li><strong>Always follow the acclimation procedure</strong> even if your new arrival appears to be dead. Some fish and invertebrates can appear dead when they arrive and will usually revive when the acclimation procedure is followed correctly.
</li><li><strong>Never place an airstone</strong> into the shipping bag or bucket when acclimating your new arrival. This will increase the pH of the shipping water too quickly and expose your new arrival to lethal ammonia.
</li><li><strong>Keep aquarium lights off</strong> for at least four hours after the new arrival is introduced into the aquarium.
</li><li><strong>Most invertebrates and marine plants</strong> are more sensitive than fish to changes in specific gravity. Please acclimate invertebrates to a specific gravity of 1.023-1.025 or severe stress or trauma may result.
</li><li><strong>Some live corals produce excess slime when shipped.</strong> After the acclimation procedure is followed, hold the coral by the rock or skeletal base and gently shake the coral in the shipping bag before placing into the aquarium. To avoid damage, please remember never to touch the "fleshy" part of a live coral. Many species of coral will not open for several days after introduction into their new home.
</li><li>In some instances, <strong>a new tank mate will be chased and harassed</strong> by one or all of your existing tank mates.
<p>
<strong>Solution 1:</strong> A clean plastic spaghetti strainer (found at your local discount store) can be
used to contain a tank bully within the aquarium for several hours until the new arrival adjusts to its surroundings. Just float the perforated plastic basket in the aquarium. Net the tank bully and place in the floating basket for approximately four hours while the new arrival adjusts to your aquarium. Never place the new arrival in this basket; the new specimen must get familiar with your aquarium. By placing the tank bully in a perforated basket, you'll reduce the stress on the new arrival.
</p><p>
<strong>Solution 2:</strong> A perforated plastic lighting grid can be purchased at the local hardware store to cut down the width of your aquarium. This grid may be used to section off a small portion of the aquarium to separate territorial or aggressive fish from the newest tank mate. After the new addition adjusts to the unfamiliar environment, the divider can be removed.</p></li></ul></td>

<ol><li>CLEAN - Use the included brush to scrub over the shell and near the foot to remove predatory snails and their eggs, sponges and stinging anemones (Aiptaisia). Be sure not to scrub the foot tissue or you may damage it. Predatory snails are small, white and generally feed near the foot of a clam.
</li><li>ACCLIMATE - Place the freshly cleaned clam into a dish with the water it was transported in along with one measure of the included Ammonia Neutralizer. Choose a large bowl or a small bucket that can hold about three times the amount of water the clam is in now. Use the included tubing to siphon water into the container the clam is in from your aquarium. Secure one end of the tubing in your tank by setting it under a rock, or securing it with a clip. Suck the other end to start a siphon. Once a siphon starts, make a simple knot in the tube to bring the flow to a slow drip, and let the tank water flow into the container holding the clam. Once the container fills, lift the clam from the bowl and into your tank.
</li><li>PLACEMENT - Put the included Clam Holder as far from strong lighting in your tank as possible (like a bottom corner). Set the newly acclimated clam on the Clam Holder, fitting its foot into the center of the contour. Clams need time to adjust to new lighting and attach. Attachment can take anywhere from a few hours to two weeks. To avoid light shock, move the clam and holder a few inches close to more intense light every week until the clam is in an area of sufficient lighting, water current and viewing pleasure. If this place is on the sand bed, the Clam Holder can be partially covered with sand; just do not get sand up against the foot of the clam.</li></ol><p>
<strong>TREATMENT (ONLY IF NECESSARY)</strong><br>
A common protozoan disease where the edges of the mantle appear shriveled before the clam dies, usually within two weeks, is called "pinched mantle." Treatment for this disease is a simple freshwater dip. Prepare a dip by filling a bucket with a gallon or two of purified water at the same temperature and pH as your tank. Test the pH of your tank and the pH of the purified water you will be using for the dip with a test kit. Bring the pH of the purified water up by using a pH Increase or buffer available at most common aquarium stores. Perform the dip by shaking the clam in freshwater for a couple of minutes, then let it set in the bucket for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes have elapsed, return the clam to your tank and wait a couple of days for it to recover.

As close to perfect as diffusers get!<br>
Sweetwater diffusers are the highest-quality ceramic-type Silica Airstones on the market today. They're machined from a solid block of glass-bonded silica. Because dust and dirt particles up to 30 microns in size will pass right through these diffusers, there's no need for expensive air filters. And with an air resistance of less than .25 psi, Sweetwater glass-bonded diffusers are compatible with economical low-pressure blowers.

They produce a uniform medium/fine bubble and are very resistant to clogging. And when cleaning does become necessary because of a buildup of calcium precipitate or bacteria, an acid bath restores them to like-new performance. Made in USA.

<strong>Sweetwater: The Best</strong><br>
With their round grain pore structure, low resistance to airflow, uniform porosity and resistance to clogging, Sweetwater diffusers are clearly the best diffusers available for general aquaculture aeration.

Smaller pores don't necessarily produce smaller bubbles. Sweetwater diffusers are engineered to produce the smallest bubble possible within the constraints of a reasonable service life. In most soft water applications, they won't need to be cleaned for more than a year. Note that water pH in excess of 9.0 will shorten the diffuser life. Self-weighting when used with typical tubing lengths.

<strong>Oxygen and biological filtration</strong><br>
Aquarium biological filtration relies primarily on aerobic beneficial bacteria to break down nitrogenous waste materials. Without a steady supply of fresh oxygen, harmful gasses and chemicals can quickly accumulate to create a toxic environment. A sudden buildup of excess waste materials can then trigger a series of events to further exacerbate the situation.

Beneficial bacteria reproduce rapidly in response to sudden increase in waste materials (for example, due to overfeeding). </p><ul><li>Place your air pump in an elevated location higher than your aquarium to prevent a back-siphon effect that may occur in the event of a power outage.
</li><li>Use a unidirectional check valve to prevent back siphon.
</li><li>Install an air flow control valve to regulate bubble output through your airstones.
</li><li>Use a gang valve to run multiple airstones through a single air pump. Keep in mind that the air flow through each airstone will decrease as air is diverted to run more airstones.
</li><li>Algae and other organic buildup on the airstone's surface can decrease air bubble production. To maintain optimum bubble production, use a brush to scrub off organic buildup.
</li><li>Proper aeration creates a healthy environment for fish but also allows efficient biological filtration to take place. Aerobic bacteria require oxygen to break down harmful ammonia and nitrite.
</li><li>In aquariums with photosynthetic organisms (plants or corals), set your air pump on a timer to run when the lights are turned off. Photosynthetic plants and corals release carbon dioxide at night. AlgaeFix is a liquid algae-control product for use in ornamental fishponds, water gardens, fountains, and freshwater aquariums. AlgaeFix is specially formulated for use in ponds and aquariums containing live plants and fish. AlgaeFix controls many types of algae, including "green water" blooms and filamentous algae. AlgaeFix is colorless and non-corrosive.

It is a violation of federal law to use this product in a manner inconsistent with its labeling.
</p><p>
Add 1 ml (1/5 tsp) for each 10 gallons or 5 ml (1 tsp) for each 50 gallons or 50 ml (10 tsp) for each 500 gallons of aquarium water. Repeat dose every 3 days until algae is controlled. Siphon or scrape any dead algae from aquarium. Once algal growth is under control, add one dose per week. Weekly doses of AlgaeFix Marine will control algal growth and reduce aquarium maintenance.

<strong>Benefits:</strong><br>
AlgaeFix Marine effectively controls these types of saltwater algae: Green algae (<em>Cladophora</em>), "Red Slime" (<em>Oscillatoria/Spirulina major</em>), "Brown Algae" (<em>Cyclotella</em>) in marine aquariums containing live corals, invertebrates, and fish. When used in saltwater AlgaeFix Marine will not harm snails, clams, scallops, shrimp, anemones, sea cucumbers, feather dusters, coralline algae, soft corals, hard corals, and other invertebrates.
