Commissioning Horn of Africa Region maps for upcoming book
|
Fri, 05 Aug 2016 09:07:38 -0700
|
RosettaBooks, a small NYC-based indie publisher specializing in non-fiction trade print, is interested in commissioning a cartographer for an upcoming book that requires some custom maps of the Horn of Africa region. The book is a memoir from a refugee who fled as a child from his home country of war-torn Eritrea through Ethiopia to safety in Kenya, and we would love to have some beautifully designed maps to accompany and clarify his journey for readers.
We are looking to commission 3 maps in total. One will potentially span a spread in the book (dimensions 22 x 28 cm) and the other two will be a single, full page each (22 x 14 cm). One map would be of general area of Eritrea/Ethiopia/Kenya and closely surrounding countries in Africa to situate the narrative for the reader. The second map would be of the city of Asmara and some of the surrounding villages in Eritrea. The third and last map would be the path of the author’s journey out of Eritrea, through Ethiopia, and to Kenya. We have more detailed information from the author for you to work with, should you be interested in accepting this commission. These maps would be black and white, and ideally relatively detailed without being too ornate.
We would need these maps finalized by the beginning of November 2016. We will be printing some initial (non-final) proofs of the book for early marketing purposes in September, so we would like to have some initial draft of the maps by mid-September to use in this proof version.
Please contact Peter at pclark@rosettabooks.com if you are interested and available in taking on this project, and what your estimated rate would be for a project of this scope.

Business location guide
|
Wed, 28 Feb 2018 10:43:48 -0800
|
I would like to map a dataset. Each record within the data includes the name and address of a US business with an additional 12 fields included. Right now the data lives in Google Sheets.
When a user clicks on a business by location, the address, times, types of products sold, contact info, description (which will not be included at the beginning), and logo should appear.
Also included in the data set is a Yelp link, which, through Yelp Fusion (API already approve), will be used to enrich the record when a user clicks on a location.
Lastly, I would like the option of turning on and off a 300x250 space for advertising or promotion. Image link would be included in the dataset. So if absent, the area would not appear.
Ultimately I want to create two maps from this data that are nearly identical. The first is all fields. The second is a selection from the whole, restricted to only businesses that sell one type of product.
Lastly, I would like to track each mapped location with Google Analytics to understand what people are looking at and where they are coming from.
Are there developers interested in taking this on?

It would be similar to the old ESPN SportsNation polls, where different states would light up, but with more granular results (ie by precinct, or voting district, or ip address location, etc). Work to be done in mapbox preferably but am open. Please contact me asap to discuss further details if you possess the skills to assist me with something like this.
